Artist Bio
Pia Linz was born in Kronberg im Taunus in 1964. The phenomenon of individual world perception and its transformation into picture reality is the main theme of her work. Thereby, two basically different pictorial concepts of space crystallize, which have both the tendency to be coevally analytic and subjective, and to merge the outer with the inner world. For example, she develops the three-dimensional Cube Pictures and Box Engravings from the inside from a fixed point of view from which she captures the surroundings with a perspective view.
The Early Site Specific Pictures of the 1980s and the Site Related Drawing Projects, on the other hand, are close to a cartographic perspective. First she measures the location with footsteps and draws up an area plan. Directly on site, with the help of a portable drawing board, she meticulously notes her observations on this plan. While the countless pedestrian perspectives merge into a kind of bird's eye view due to their simultaneity in the drawing, the place is transformed into a free-floating monad. Pia Linz lives and works in Berlin.
